Ways To Deal With a Horrible Broncos Loss

Zeke in Town

Thomas in more successful days

Caught a hot tip that the Greatest PG-Never-to-Play-on-a-Dream-Team paid a visit to the Queen City of the Plains to "coach" his Florida International University ("Miami's public research university") Panthers in a basketball contest versus your Denver University Pioneers. Sounds like the Pios pulled out a low-scoring victory while Isiah made sure that he looked good in his suit. Aside from last night's Pio win, Denver sports fans can also thank Thomas for bringing Nugget reserve Renaldo Balkman into the Association - who, BTW, is averaging 8 MPG (that's minutes/game, not his carbon footprint). As the Knick GM, perhaps Thomas thought he was making a deft choice by drafting Rolando Blackman when he chose Balkman. In any event, it's fun to see Thomas and reminisce about the glory days of the NBA - back when one might find "Jump" on a warm-up tape. (Oh, and this former Evergreen banger will be in that Bouldeh and Denver next week for the Holidays. Give a shout if you want to get rowdy.)

A Victory for Barrel Man

A somewhat unexpected drubbing of the Chiefs this afternoon in KC for the Broncos. Was expecting a closer game with the Broncos winning, but will certainly take a stress-free crucial road win in a place that has been a house of horrors for the B'cos for quite some time. Defense came up big again with turnovers against a Chiefs offense that looked horrible. Running game was dominant and aside from some Orton turnovers (great game to get some of those out of your system), the offense did more than enough to make this a laugher by mid-3rd quarter. Another thing I noticed today, which was very nice to see, was the utter lack of penalties committed by the B'cos. That would be a good trend to continue from here on out. And yes, the Barrel Man died yesterday. You can only assume he would've loved this game. This one's for you, dude.

But honestly, what does this post have to do with Cutler and his Bears eeking a home win against the hapless Rams? Impressive....

The Not-So-Hot Heat

A pretty standard home blow-out win for the Nugs last night. ST and I sitting behind the basket about five rows up to the delight of all TNT viewers I imagine (see photo). The Nugs didn't dazzle with their play, but were still able to route Wade and his boys, which is pretty impressive I guess.

My favorite part of the evening was getting to heckle Craig Sager as he was walking court side looking like an arrogant prick. Oh yeah, ST also got introduced to former Colo Governor Beaker, errrrr, Bill Owens.

The other Can team didn't fair as well. Didn't see the replay of the disallowed goal, but it sounds like we kind of got jobbed. That weak call on Clark to give the Penns a 5-3 also sucked......

A Scrappy Point

That's a game that seemed pretty lost with only a minute left...but Duchey and TJ wanted to tally at least a point. Awesome empty net work, and a really resilient look for the Avs.

Andy didn't look too good throughout...but sometimes the O will pick you up. Also, sometimes Footer won't stand for a cheap goalie interference/injury-inducer (damn, that Ballard fucker sure hates goalies). Loved Foote's instant "smell the glove" shots at Ballard.
2 points would be preferred, and the Avs seem to be a team that "settles" quite a bit lately for the OTL...but the simple fact that they did get one point, and remain relevant is worthwhile, and that was pretty damn exciting there at the end...

A 2-0 Lead Stands Up?

Seems like about every game the Avs play they either fall behind 0-2 or take a 2-0 lead. Normally, that score doesn't mean shit and the team trailing has about a 50-50 shot of coming back to either take the lead or win. Not tonight. Andy is fairly stellar in the pipes (especially in the 3rd) and the combo of Duchene and Stewbag provides all of the offense needed to keep it at 2-0 for the entire game. Considering Jonsey is out for the year (hard to overstate what a bummer that is considering how he was playing) and the Duke is still on the shelf, it's imperative that others step up and pick up the scoring slack. I would love to see the Rook play a big part in filling that role...

Great start to a crucial roadie that comes on the heels of a brutal back-to-back set with the Wild. The PK was great tonight, but the trip could end badly if the Avs continue to spend as much time in the box as they did tonight.....More shutouts please....

You just got your ass WHIPPED...

... by a bunch of goddamn vikings (don't cha know).

Just so everyone knows, watching Cuntler's '09 season go to complete shit never really gets old. It seems to get better every week. ahhhhhh.

What the Hell is Going on With Our Season?

Let me list a few problems in this latest loss. Starting with the offense...

1) Two fumbles in the red zone.

2) Crappy QB play from Simms. A gimpy Orton did better, but after taking a cheap shot to the ankle from Merriman and forced to throw pretty much every down in the second half, Neckbeard didn't make any big plays.

3) 3 Points....

On defense:

1) Wasn't able to put pressure on Rios

2) Couldn't consistently stop the run.

3) No forced turnovers.

Special teams:

1) Momentum killing failed onside kick. (Appeared like it could have worked, but really?)

2) 15 yard penalties after every FG by SD ensuring bad field position.

The AFC West appears lost. Wild card chances slipping away. The season-ending record might be more in line with what seemed realistic prior to the season after all....

God. Budaj sucks.

I do not agree with the above slogan. Put in Bernie.

Quarterback Controversy On Hold

A lot of people got their wish today when Chris Simms got to play QB for the entire second half (I'm looking at you Woody Paige), while Neckbeard sat on the sidelines nursing an injured ankle. Let's just say the Broncos don't have a QB controversy in the wake of Simms' 3-13, 13 yards, 1 INT, 0 TD performance. 3rd straight week where the Broncos lay down in the 2nd half and lose as a result. Special teams continue to be a joke, as the Redskins convert a 4th and 20 fake field goal for a TD (really, did that happen?) and Mitch Berger continues to raise eyebrows over how he's actually pulling an NFL check. I gotta say I had a bad feeling about this game going in, although it seemed to be well in hand before the special teams meltdown and Neckbeard coming up gimpy. Let's hope he's back next week, or it could be a long day in what will be the biggest game of the season at home vs the Chargers.

Ahem, the term, "run out of the gym" comes to mind....

Admittedly, I was more preoccupied with drinking beer, eating pizza, and watching the new "Glen Beck" episode of South Park (during halftime) than watching the blow-by-blow of this game. All I know is when I finished the SP viewing, the 3rd quarter had started and suddenly the score was very lopsided. As DT conveyed via fax, "How did we lose to these cocksuckers?" How indeed...

Can Teams Roll

Been a while since KTH rapped at y'all. Nice homecoming win tonight for the Avs to avoid a 3-game skid and the Nugs remain unbeaten this season at 5-0. Just a ho-hum night for the pro teams in this town. It's almost like that weak Broncos game I sort of remember something about last weekend didn't even happen. Just a blip on the screen of a 6-1 season....

Lucero. Jack O. Snow.

We go to shows in Denver too, you know you goddam Boulder hippies. I'd post a shot of Lucero but the only one I managed with the Blackberry features some dude's bald head right in front of me, prominently. Fuck that bald dude. Instead a shot of Jack Oblivian...great set from Jack O.
TD, Dahmer and me went to the show. Then the sky proceeded to shit snow for two days.
Really great excuse for hot toddys.
In the afternoon.

In case you're wondering. Go Nuggets.

Shows in B-Town

Not a bad couple of weeks for concerts in the Boulder area. Last week, Blitzen Trapper (bottom panel), and yesterday Dinosaur Jr. (with Lou Barlow's solo act as one of the openers, top panel). DJ's (not the jazzy trahan) set list was a bit different from when I saw them 3 1/2 years ago where they played only stuff from 'youre living all over me' and 'dinosaur' along with the wagon and freak scene... from what I remember. Last night had a little bit of everything from every album with the exception of whatever's cool with me, which I guess isn't considered a full-length album. Obvi a good chunk (about 4 or 5) of the set was from 'Farm'.

I noticed a lot of attendees saying that it was really loud.... um yeah!.. IT IS rock'n roll.

Whistle Mania, Melo Dominance

Contrary to what the TBS studio crew was saying after this game, I'm not sure I would say that a game that includes 60 fouls and 90 free throws counts as a 'great NBA game' in my book. Sure, it was close down the stretch, featured each team's super stars dueling it out (albeit mostly at the foul line), and fairly compelling to watch (mostly due to my rooting interest). Still, the influence of the refs on this game (which was very physical I grant you) was over the top.

However, I do agree with what the TBS crew and Melo were saying about it being a very 'gritty' victory for the 2-0 Nuggets last night on back-to-back games against their primary NW Division rivals. While I admit I was watching Game 2 of the Fall Classic while enjoying a Hot Toddy in hopes of getting over recent illness (helped, but I'm still at home today, hence the late Fri morning post) and only monitoring this game up until the 4th, but I can say with certainty that Melo flat out put this team on back down thee stretch and 'willed' his team to victory. Some very questionable calls go against the road team down the stretch (per NBA policy), but the Blaze graciously missed unearned free throws (out of guilt?) that could have otherwise changed the outcome of the game. There was even a lot of talk from the TBS studio crew post-game about Melo as a front-running MVP candidate this year. Shit, you've come along way Sir Charles...

DT - Where's the Dino J post?

3 losses eh?

As previously noted by the young bear, there was no bronco action this weekend, which makes an October Sunday an especially boring one. Fortunately for fans like me (and perhaps others in the KTH community), there was coverage of the beat down given to Jay Cuntler and his Chicago Bears by the Cincinnati Beengals (no, this is not a PS posting). I thoroughly enjoyed that game; Face Cutler!

I guess as a Bronco fan I should probably stop rooting for the Beengals. They looked pretty damn good today, and are a team that the Broncos might be competing for home-field advantage with... of course, that's if the Broncos ever lose.

Avs continue to school the hated Wings this season...

...and ease in a new St. Bernard mascot that freely pours bourbon down the gullets of young Avs fans at the Pepsi Center from his "emergency" cask. Thank god for Bernie. Young fans have needed more cask aged bourbon for some time at Avs games; finally they have a cuddly and cute hockey-dog that will make in-game deliveries of that precious amber liquid.

Another great Saturday night victory against Detroit in '09.
Jesus, Anderson faces 48 shots and allows 1 (one) goal?? Budaj would have let in double digits. Anderson during his 1st Star speech tonight was off the hook. He could not be contained...

Rookies and youngsters continue to be a big part of the score-sheet.
Turns out Stew-bag doesn't like AHL send-downs. Dude has been money the past two games since his return from Cleveland - both Stewart and Galiardi had goals & assists tonight. Can it go this well all season?? Probably not, but I think any Avs fan will take this surprising start. I am in disbelief nearly every game I've watched.

It's called THE ROYAL TREATMENT

Oh my. Oh god. I freaking love these Broncos. A Lot.

This team continues to silence doubters and raise the volume while I'm stressing, watching these games.
The Chargers. In San Diego. That is a sweet victory for the franchise and fans who have had to endure some fairly horrid losses the past few years.

Royal runs wild. Dude rules. Amazing... two runbacks but no catches tonight. Make it count where you can.
The Broncos 2nd half D is mindblowing.

I better get a goddam Orton jersey for Xmas this year. Seriously.

RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!!
TACOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

Bad Post. I'm hammered!! Whoo Hoo!

McLeod sweater update. Still can't locate that damn thing, but I want it back.

Probably about time to pour some props on another Denver team that wasn't slated to do shit this year either; The Colorado Avalanche.
Tonight was a freaking awesome game...3rd period comeback, in Detroit? Hell Yes.
Shootout win? Hell Yes. I know the economy in Detroit is shit and was hit harder than most US cities, but Hockeytown is also suffering a downturn. Not sure that there is a stimulus package for that Wings fans....
My boy, Cody in a throwdown with Brad May early on, and two goals on top of it all. Young Rook, Duchene with his first big league goal. Nothing fancy just a pure skate into the zone and shot on net. Hopefully the first of many.
Very impressive 2 points this evening. Perched atop the Northwest. Perched atop the Western Conference too...wow.

Romo's drinking the Kool-Aid

Heard some sweet Bronco's love from ex-Linebacker/Asshole, Bill Romanowski on one of the local morning sports-talk radio shows the other day. Jesus, the dude was basically guaranteeing they were going to win the Super Bowl. Totally entertaining babble. Not sure if Romo is the most reliable source for NFL prognostication, but it sure was fun to listen to his rabid love for the '09 Broncos....

Who will confirm and/or certify this team as "For Real"?

WOW. Broncos beat the Pats. Dramatic-like in OT. Hard to believe. Here are my Peter King style thoughts. (sans retardation, or any mention of coffee or the socks.)
>Orton was stellar. This cannot be argued.
>J-Mac (is that his proper nickname?) and his staff did a great job- especially after making adjustments during halftime.
>To the last point, the defense looked more vulnerable than at any point this season during the 1st half today. They proceed to shut out Brady & Co. in the 2nd. Adjustments made.
>Keep Marshall happy with TD tosses, or whatever (in addition to $$) that will keep him in town...please. He is a beast at WR.
>Everyone. Quit fumbling.
>Special teams. Quit extending drives for the other team w/bad penalties.
>Prater. You make me nervous, regardless of winning the game in OT today.
>J-Mac's post-game on the field seig-heiling and fist pumping was bizarre. He is apparently more excitable and unhinged than his mentor. Shit was funny...whoo-boy. Dude wants Bronco-Hatred ratcheted up on a national level more than its current state, I guess. I was happy and chuckling. You get your kicks when you can I guess. Wish I was at Mile High today....last week vs. Cowboys was still awesome.
>I love me some Broncos.

South Stands View

With all due respect to DT's Skeletor post....
The simple fact is, that I (and can only assume TD) took a few days of recovery mixed with something called work to finally get a post thrown up from the glorious Sunday festivities at Mile High.

One of the best Broncos games I've been to for drama, and total hatred for opposing fans. You think Raiders fans are insufferable? Try on a few Cowboys fans for size. The contingent was VERY large, so tons of tickets had to have been relinquished by the Bronco Country "faithful", thanks a bunch cocksuckers....
We were basically surrounded by 'Boys fans. Allow me to describe a few memorable entries.
>Little Ginger with blue Witten jersey. Had odd BO, according to TD.
>Bald dude with blue Romo jersey. Fully tripping on angel dust...oblivious to the fabulous demise of the Cowboys as it was unfolding.
>Visible in the photo above. Frontrunning THUG (for real) in Kobe Bryant jersey. If I didn't think I would probably die in a matter of minutes, I might have chosen him for my antagonistic beverage toss.
.....and, so many more Cowboys fans to choose from, for all your hatred needs!
But what about the game?

Orton. Efficient, tactical. TCB.
Marshall. Clutch, nutty. TCB.
Champ. Aggressive, INT, TCB.
Defense. Continues to impress. Teams might get yards...but damn, if they don't have issues scoring. Taking Care of fucking Business.

Can it keep up with the Pats coming to town? I'm skeptical, but if it does...time for some national love.

Part 2 of my Sports Day Extravaganza

Still drying my eyes from both a Rockies Wild Card birth (see BSB/blogspot.com) and then seeing the greatest Avs player to ever play and probably will ever play have his number retired. It's been said before, but we will miss you Joe. Amazing, amazing career and certainly the face of this franchise forever.

As far as turning the page goes, the upstart Avs sure looked spirited by the Joe ceremony and took it to the regular-season god, known as the SJ Sharks. I like the prospect of Duchene making the team for the season. Dude looked pretty good. The KTH seat upgrade this year is pretty nice too....

Great American Beer Fest is well....."great"

>Love that Snake River brew.
>Don't love dorkwads in capes.
>Love DT manning the Detroit Brewing booth actually.
>Don't love that ornery bitch at the PBR booth begging worse than 500 TD's for swag.
>Love the pre-fest dump.
>Don't love the fact that I'm not a fan of pretzels. (is something wrong with me??)
>Love beer, basically.
>Don't love 1 oz. increments though.
>Love the chance to hoist a few (hundred) with CorB, DT, and TD.
>Don't love last call.

Pretty Much An Ass Kicking

Suck on that Raider Nation. By the way, your QB flat sucks. Give me Neckbeard any day. While the schedule gets quite a bit tougher, 3-0 is a pretty good way to start the McD era. Will be interesting to see how this dominant D looks against the Cowboys next week.

Sunny Day Real Estate Monday Night....

I'm sure Dahmer has stellar photos of this show. Mine were from my Blackberry, which takes some mighty shitty photos in a show environment. Proven time and again on this site.
If there is a next time for SDRE live in Denver - and I don't hear anything from HIFTBSO again I might have to give an Emo beatdown to a certain Lover of the Lord.
Not sure if I could take Spilly Jr. if it came to a setlist rumble, he's a bit more rugged.

Brougham Saturday Night...

Rocking Brougham Royale show Saturday night....
I will offer this bit of insight, based on my experiences that evening.
Being a roadie is much easier on the load-in. Later in the evening you've got to watch out for the stair surfing with your hands full, and your brain addled.

Is This Man a Genius?

Defense wins football games they say. The Broncos' defense suddenly bears no resemblance to the piss-poor group from '08.
Got to start to wonder how much is Nolan's schemes and how much is the upgraded personnel. Whatever it is, I like it, for 2 weeks straight against THE Ohio based NFL squads.
Keep this up and we may have reason to believe that the difficult upcoming schedule may actually not be just a whole slew of "L's". I'm encouraged. Or to quote the Replacements (the band not the movie) as all good NFL pundits do, "Color Me Impressed"

This Orton Guy Is Clutch!

One of the crazier football games you could ever imagine to see. It was pretty boring for the first 59:40 of the game, but then things got exciting, to say the least. Neckbeard conjures up some 4th quarter magic and delivers a brilliant trick play. It's really harder than it looks and requires a perfect throw to get the ball to deflect off the defender's hands at the right angle to hit the wide-open Brandon Stokely. A gutsy play-call by McD, but very effective at getting past defensive secondaries that drop back into a prevent with the game all but sewn up.

Seriously, I kind of look at the first couple of games like an extension of the preseason. The offense looked putrid overall, but some of that can be chalked up to dropped passes, sloppy passes, and untimely penalties. All of these can be fixed and I'm not expecting our offense to suck this bad all year. They will get better throughout the season(which might be masked somewhat be the increasing difficulty of schedule). The defense looked improved, but still gave up quite a few wide-open pass plays and of course had what appeared to be a game-losing meltdown when the game was on the line. But, that's what a gamer like Neckbeard will do for you: pick up your defense, when they had been picking up the offense all game.

I smell Super Bowl.....

Meat Puppets. Ween. red rocks.

It looks, and feels, weird at Meat Puppets & Ween shows. I have trouble focusing on things.

Not the most promising start, Kyle....

I haven't lost faith in the ol' neckbeard....but a dicey preseason game nonetheless. Nice to see Simms Jr. can sling though.
I reveled in Cuntler's own struggles in his first game with Da Bears.
For sure.

The season will most certainly be an interesting one.

Sidenote: love the Niners reverting to the more "classic" looking unis. My 10 years in the bay area has left an NFC team rooting residue.
That said, I'll leave that late 2006 Cutler-era Broncos defeat at the hands of the 49ers that knocked the B'cos out of the playoffs off any Niners rooting resumes.
Plummer would have won that game, but he was on the sidelines wishing he was in Idaho snapping tubes, drinking a few brews, and fishing (after some grueling handball contests). Whatever.

Saturday, August 8, 2009

Denver's on like a 6 and Chicago's like a 9

Denver fans are a 6? Good call because the true tell of any team's fans is their preseason patronage (especially a preseason that is as completely meaningless as the NFL's). I didn't think it was possible for me to root any harder against this prick, but apparently I was proven wrong.

MLS...Dicks...Rapids...Douchebags...and (vaguely warm) Budweiser products offered on a bus.

Lad's Night Out!!!

ahh. shotgunning beers.
pre-Rapids game, YB and DT are doing it like they are Alpha Betas.

Rapids not able to put a goal on the board tonight unfortunately. 1-0 loss.

Shit, I'm a baseball fan.....what am I doing posting something about soccer?
Not sure...but the facility is top notch and a damn fun joint to hang out at. I'll be back.

Rapids need to step it up. Contact me for any Rockies/Rapids griping parallels. Choking crosses all boundries, and has an open door policy.

Ira biding his time in the background.

Pitchfork Fest.

This shit is late. And like much these days, not sports or "Denver" related. Anyways, TD and me went out to Chicago for Pitchfork fest. Good fun, too much IPA and maybe not enough Sparks.
Photos are Jesus Lizard and Wavves. Too lazy to get many more, I guess. Some other good rock enjoyed.....Built to Spill, Fucked Up, Pains...., Doom, Black Lips, Dianogah, Blitzen Trapper, Women, Japandroids, Grizzly Bear.
My take: The Flaming Lips need to get back to reality and be a Rock Band, not an Event.
It was pretty special having YB play drums for Wavves, not sure about that weird aqua colored shirt though.
