And The Cradle Will Rock
As someone who felt is was definitely time for Shannatan to move on, I'm a bit conflicted about what to make of the Josh McDaniel hire announced last night. First of all, I've never really heard of this guy. That probably has something to do with trying (with apparent success) to ignore everything having to do with the Patriots over the last several years. Sure the guy has been a part of the most successful nfl organization of the '00's, but it's hard getting over the fact that this dude is 32 years old. I don't like discrimination based on race, sex, creed, age, or even musical tastes (although I'm probably flagrantly guilty of the latter), but when you're five years younger than I, it makes me wonder how the hell you can be a credible nfl head coach. I'm hoping this has more to do with my immaturity than the reality of player-coach relations in today's nfl. Anyway, I hope I'm wrong about this choice being extremely risky and Bowlen is just a smarter football guy than I.
Good luck Jr, I hope this hire doesn't end the same way as Al Davis' cradle-robbing fiasco last year.........

I too was a little baffled and slightly dismayed at the hiring of McKid (Thanks Woody!), but with the apparent hiring of Mike Nolan as DC and keeping Bates around with Cutler I'm getting more excited. It appears Bowlen has done his homework on the kid and besides Wade Phillips, whom everyone who has hired him has been wrong (see Dallas Cowboys), his track record of Super Bowl coaches speaks for itself. When does training camp start?!?
On another note, could you boys please give me a reason why I should be optimistic/excited with the upcoming baseball season other than my fantasy squad?
Have you seen Junior's grades?
Yeah, I think the Nolan hire would be pretty quality and I'm becoming a little more at ease with McKid (such classic not clever Woodyism). Should be interesting nonetheless to see how this all pans out. I still maintain it's a better direction than sticking with the same old same old that hasn't done squat for years. Probably the biggest strike against this guy is going to be that the defense will still likely suck. I saw last night that we were last in the league in takeaways last night. That stat didn't surprise me at all and needs to be a priority for Nolan to change dramatically.
And optimism for next baseball season? It's tough to come by. I think the starting rotation will actually be better, assuming Francis is healthy and in '07 form. I think there is also more backend insurance in that department with Marquis, G-Smith, DLR (who was pretty awesome in Aug and Sept last season), and the youngsters waiting to emerge (Morales / Hirsh). It sounds a lot more solid than last season banking on Morales, Hirsh, and Kip Wells.
Offense could be dicey with Matty. Tulo and Helton need regain their form at the plate, that's for sure. Will be interesting to see how Barmes does, seeing as he appears to be in line to start at 2nd all year.
Oh yeah, and most importantly, they'll have Miller Lite at Swankys, although that probably doesn't do you much good, Riggins.
Last in takeaways...but also last in points allowed (probably that final Chargers game sealed that one for 'em)
Nolan most certainly has his work cut out for him.
We'll see....we'll see.
hey wait a minute. do we know his musical tastes? this really could make a difference...
BTW. Of the Replacements reissues, I've now discovered that that the BEST bonus shit resides at the end of the "Pleased to Meet Me" disc. VERY VERY GOOD.
If the defense improves to the middle teens we make the playoffs. Takeaways are the key (see Ravens/Cardinals)!
Bring on the Rocks! Why do you fear a golf weekend in H-town and a little Rockies/Stros' action? Don't like heat!
