This One's for Mike!

Some disturbing news surfaced yesterday on the eve of the first Avalanche playoff game. It was announced that Mike Haynes, the very likable TV broadcaster for the Avs, would undergo a major operation to address a brain aneurysm. Some pretty heavy shit to go down for part of the Avalanche family. Remember, Haynes would get into altercations with Red Wing fans at "the Joe" during the height of the Wings rivalry back in the 90's, when Haynes was on the radio. We'll miss your call for the playoffs....get well buddy. Strangely, the Avs' former tv guy, John Kelly, will be filling in for Haynes. Kelly will have no trouble announcing for the familiar names of Forsberg, Sakic, and Foote. It will be interesting to hear Kelly on the call again, but the circumstances are certainly less than ideal. I must make a major complaint though toward the broadcasting setup. Unless I'm interpreting my Comcast guide incorrectly, tonight's game will not be in HD. What hell, this is the playoffs!?!?! If we're stuck with low-def road games on Altitude throughout the playoffs, I'll be pissed. (Really hope I'm wrong about this....)

Puck drops in 10 minutes.....c'mon Super Avs!!

...i thought the announcing sounded odd. i've been flicking back between Rox/Avs.

I was about to consult, TroutDog, the Comcast HD expert about why I couldn't find the hockey in definition that was in fact, high.

scoreless after 1 period...c'mon Avs. the Wild have displayed a rather oppresive defensive strategy.

I'm liking that 2nd period! Let's hope this is the start to a big series for Smyth. How's the new tv, ST? Hope your peaks at the Rocks game have been in HD - CH 664.

Jesus, this game has been intense. Whatever the outcome in OT, it was well-played by both teams and looks like it will be a great series. A freakin' shame we couldn't cash in one of those golden late-3rd period chances - including the penalty shot.

God, the playoffs are stressful to watch (and sort of enjoyable).

I have no idea what the hell happened. I DVRed the fucking game and I even set the motherfucker to record the post show. My recording ended about 9 minutes into OT. I know we won but I have no idea what the fuck happened. Oh well I'm listening to Social Distortion on my iPod and I'm considering greasing my hair back as my new look. What do you think? I better get some Dickies.

You better get some tattoos and a nasty heroin habit too.

that was some great playoff hockey. Backstrom held off a 3rd period spell of furious scoring chances from the Avs after the Wild tied it up. Had me thinking that luck was on the Wild's side...Super Joe dispelled that notion.

'Steve' (if that is your real name), I'm sure you've seen the highlights by now, but Salei got a shot on goal from the point and Sakic backhanded the rebound past Backstrom. Great game. This series is going to be pretty brutal.

By the way, I suggest going with the Mommy's Little Monster era Ness look and spike the hair, or whatever you call what he used to do to his hair back when he was smacked out, but making better music.

The refs better not be this lame throughout the playoffs, it shouldn't have even gone to OT. Great win nonetheless.

Agreed on the refs...some questionable calls and then some surprising review outcomes as well.

TD, I thought you were more partial to the Prison Bound trasitional period of the Social D.

I thought Prison Bound was entirely fueled by Johnny Cash covers and other popular juke box selections heard at the PS Lounge. Make mine Another State of Mind.
