Melo scores basketball points

Probably warrants a post that Melo put up 33 points in the 3rd quarter, breaking the franchise record. Don't have too much time to elaborate, but I think it's fair to say now that the Nug-pups are now among the elite in the western coference (though might still be a tier lower than those stupid Lakers). Not that carmelo's performance in one quarter was the clincher, it just seems like the nugs are consistently winning games that they SHOULD be winning, a quality they haven't possessed since they became a playoff team. It was also nice to see the team rebound from a rather crappy 1st quarter, when Chauncey was the only player keeping them afloat.

That is all, back to end of semester stuff (jealous?).

Altitude Network looking for some new talent...

Section 350 Represent!!
The eagle-eyes of TD noticed this last weekend...the Altitude Avs promo commercial has some big time Section 350 camera-time (and a lot of footage of Avs goals scored on the Wild, which seems a tad unrealistic besides the last game don't you think?)
Anyways, I'm presenting a screenshot. Wow! TD very prominent, me not quite as much since I love the aisle so damn much. Kinda funny. Move over Kyle Keefe and Julie Browman. Seriously, move over, you two fucking annoy me.
And tonight's Kings game? after 1 period, lovely. 3 zip Avs.
Wonder if my appearance check from Kroenke will show up in time for my Xmas shopping?

Had You Worried, Didn't I?

That game was a little more stressful than probably necessary, but, in the end, pretty entertaining. Cutler's first quarter pick-six was ugly to say the least. I thought maybe we were witnessing another "I partied too hard down at Rise last night" performance from Cutler. But, the offense stepped up thereafter and the D played well enough to secure a much needed win against a crappy team. The magic number now stands at one with three games left. I say we just run the table and take the 2nd seed in the playoffs and a first round bye. Probably not realistic, but Shanny needs to keep the intensity high in the last few weeks, even if the division is clinched. This team is not a juggernaut and every win from here on out will only help their confidence and chances to actually make it past Round 1 of the playoffs.

There Ain't Shit On TV Tonight

With no Avs or Nuggs in action tonight, it was a harsh night to be in front of a TV set on a cold wintry evening. Had my computer not been flipping me the bird late last night, I was going to post about how the Nugg-Pups absolutely destroyed the Raptors. So much so, that I think I saw a blurb that their coach got shit-canned today. Nice work, fellas. My Nuggets are looking pretty fierce right about now, as long as they're not playing the Lakers or I don't have money riding on them (see: Thanksgiving evening).

In the midst of this Wed evening hellhole of a sports night (sorry, I can't get into College B-Ball in Dec, ESPN & YB), I did happen to catch a little of Nightmare on Elm Street 3 (I think). Shit, that took me way back. I was a fan of all of the first three versions. Seeing portions of that movie actually injected the same kind of fright in me normally reserved for seeing the B'cos defensive squad take the field. But, what was really alarming was seeing, I think, Johnny Depp in this movie. Now I'm no movie buff, but isn't he supposed to be some sort of premier actor? Really? He was in Nightmare on Elm St 3? And his character? Some rich teenager in a half shirt hooking up with the delusional poor chick across the street. Brilliant work. At least his role ended with him getting sucked into the mattress of his bed and Depp's blood squirting all over the room. Bravo.

TV better be better tomorrow night, or maybe it's time to schedule another Das Boot banquet.

Somebody Get a Jets Fan a Drink Already!

Damn, didn't see that dominating performance coming! A shocker in the Meadowlands as Cutler turns in a much-needed brilliant performance and Hillis did a good job of protecting the ball while accumulating over 100 yards. I like that combination. It's hard to erase the memory of last week's meltdown against the Raiders at home, but this is a good start. Time to face some facts. The Broncos are a better road team than home team and the playoffs are looking almost like a lock at this point, with Phillipe Rios and the Bolts losing yet another game at home to Hotlanta.

Next up, the Chefs at Invesco. We'll find out rather quickly if the B'cos learned anything from that Raiders debacle.

Not too much Wojtek, Too much Wojtek

Already a good night for the Denver fans, with a solid Nug wins over the T-Wolves. I must say, I didn't see much of the 2nd half of the game due to the 7:05 Avs faceoff, but when I switched back and saw that they had 15 point lead in the 3rd, I felt comfortable to switching over to Altitude to watch the rest of my Avs. I guess Melo and Billups were dishin'em...

But the Avs looking good tonight (no jinx please) as the 3rd period is about to start. 3 goals in the first! Seriously, I could get use to that. Defense is doing a solid job of not letting too many shots on Raycroft either (who also hasn't looked too bad thus far). Wolski putting together a rather huge game with 2 already in the net; I'd be getting my hat ready if I were you. Furthermore, the title of this post could have easily been replaced with Marek's name (with him having an assist on all 3 goals), but I'm assuming there will be plenty of opps for those later in the season.

Go Avs!

Thanksgiving night game a bit of a turkey...

Last night's game started real fast for the Nuggs, and they got some welcome strong bench scoring from J.R. but couldn't lock it down.
A red-hot fourth quarter from Paul, a big 3 late from Posey combined with a pretty damn sub-par (tryptophan induced?) game from Chauncey, a lame technical for K-Mart and basically some pretty fortunate "bounces" for the Hornets doomed this one for the Nug-Pups I'm afraid.
Couldn't resist making the "turkey" joke. My apologies.

It's all about Lappy again

Potentially a solid night for Denver sports fans as the Avs get a much needed win against the Blues, and the Nugs fight for a win here in the 2nd half. For the Avs, they looked mighty solid on the side of the puck (is that an expression?) that they normally don't... that would be defense. On top of that Budaj had looked good as well; we need to keep that kind of shit up if we're going to even think about playoffs in the spring. And on a final note, and as the title would maybe suggest, Ian Laperriere is now our best offensive player (at least until Friday).

(I'm talking about ventin'! what are you talkin about?)

AFC Championship

Mark my words. An AFC West team will be represented at the 2008-2009 AFC Championship game. It may be the Broncos, it may be the Chargers. Hell the way things are looking it might even be the Raiders.

Although I cannot offer much insight into the player matchups and offensive schemes employed by the two professional basketball teams that will compete tonight in San Antonio, Texas, I can offer up an attempt to replicate the dupe that Death Truck foisted upon me and most of the rest of the sports-loving public with his cleverly designed "Boston Celtics" logo. It took me a few glances to realize that the "Celtics" logo posted by DT was not in fact the actual logo (see comments from the earlier post). As it were, the professional basketball team from Colorado that plays home games at the Pepsi Center has not had much luck when facing the organization that calls San Antonio home. Perhaps with the addition of a player who has returned to his land of nativity after several successful years with another organization the Denver team may fare better now and in the future. While it will be difficult for me to watch the game, I will certainly and eagerly read a recapitulation of the game tomorrow here at KTH:TBDSBE. Uhm, Go No-Guts.

Avs look like they might just need some Blue Line help...

After watching last night's game I think it's time to make a call to Lake Erie or heaven or wherever the fuck Hockey Jesus is playing at the moment. The D needs the perfect mix of defensive finesse and muscle that only Hockey Jesus can bring to the squad.
Unless of course they can swing a deal for Hockey Satan, he would also be sure to energize this team, and take some "heat" off of Budaj.

Not Too Much Cheikh Samb. Too Much Cheikh Samb

The Nuggets keep winning with a cakewalk victory over the hapless Milwaukee Bucks to move to 7-4 and 5-1 AC (After Chauncey.) The past two games have been a perfect contrast in how to win games that the best teams are supposed to get.

A.) Sunday night against Minnesota, the Nuggets were really bad and rode one hot shooter (Chauncey) to a sloppy and gutsy win against a bad team.

OR

B.) Last night, against a similarly inferior squad, the Nuggets played well, built a big lead and cruised.

It does, however, raise the concern about how they will fare against the stronger sides. Maybe last weekend's Cleveland/Boston back-to-back was a snap snot. But, if they can split with the league's elite and keep down the bottom dwellers, the Nuggets should be able to get close to 50 wins again this year.

Now the most imperitive question becomes, when does Cheikh Samb start getting major minutes?

Not too much Svatos. Too much Svatos.
Meat Puppets "Up on the Sun" axiom holds true in the early going against yet another NW division rival on this road trip.
Too bad the Oil and the Wild have already got their 2 points on tonight.
Budaj facing a flurry in the second half of the 1st period...make it stand, my friend.

Did Anyone See That Avs Game Last Night?

Damn, I love me some Darcy Tucker. Dude came up HUGE last night with that redirect tip in tying goal and then the shoot-out winner. If there's something Champ Bailey loves, it's hockey night in Canada. 4 points so far on this current north-of-the-border roadie. Impressive to say the least. My slamming hockey analysis wouldn't be complete without saying this Budaj cat has been the shizzle as of late. You can pretty much credit the six points collected by the Avs in the past three games to his sick net minding. Props to my main man Clarky for stepping up to keep it a one goal game once Budalicious left for the bench. Hockey truly is the ultimate team sport!

Oh yeah, I was also on the sideline today for that Broncos game against the FAWLCINS. While I was barely paying attention (I was really hungover after celebrating that Avs game last night), it was a great win and a great day for the Broncos. The defense actually stepped up a bit and did a good job of stopping the run. 3rd downs are still a big problem and Dre Bly still doesn't deserve to clean my cup, but I gotta give my boys props for gutting out two road wins with me, the only notable rostered player on defense, on the sidelines. With a two game lead in the AFC "Worst" (get it?), it's looking good for a shot at the playoffs. Thanks for not totally fucking it up guys before my return!

Lookie here, my Nuggets also appear to be heading to a win against the hapless T-Wolves after 3 and half listless periods of ball. All is well in KTH land.....

Sincerely,

Champ Bailey

Don't ever hire Rick Tocchet to be an assistant coach

Note to NHL Head Coaches. If you value your career do not hire Rick Tocchet to be on your staff!
What do Wayne Gretzky, Tony Granato, Rick Tocchet and Barry Melrose have in common? Answer: They were all associated with the LA Kings. What else do they have in common? Answer: Rick Tocchet jacking up their lives and careers.
Hmmm. Return to the scene of the crime. Rick Tocchet signs with the LA Kings. A few seasons later Barry Melrose is fired and does not coach again for more than a decade. Fast forward several years. Tony Granato is hired to replace Bob Hartley as head coach. Rick Tocchet is hired to be an assistant coach on his staff. What happens? Tony Granato is demoted to assistant coach in favor of Joel Quennville. Then good old Ricky moves on to the Phoenix Coyotes to be an assistant with the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. He brings shame to the Great One's house by involving Wayne's wife and super hot former actress in a multi-state illegal gambling ring. (Let it also be known that she is the reason why the Edmonton Oilers were dismantled. That is another story) Rick then takes a few years off from his path of career destruction. Next after an eternity away from the bench Barry Melrose is plucked from the ESPN studios and named head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Who does he pick to be an assistant coach? Yep, you guessed it; Rick Tocchet. A handful of games into the 2008 season and Melrose is fired. Who is named interim head coach? Rick Tocchet.
November 29th would have matched former coach against former player. Granato vs Melrose. Instead we get Granato vs. Tocchet. I think that the mulleted one will be in the house. Here's hoping that Tony climbs over the glass and kicks Tocchet's ass. Let's do it for Barry!

Face Boston!

A solid win tonight for the Nug-Pups. Nah, a more than solid win for the Nug-pups as they knock off one of the, if not thee, best team in the NBA. Pretty impressive considering it was on the road (first home loss for the Celtics), and it was a back-to-back night game for the Nugs, blowing one down the stretch to the Cavs last night.

I must admit I didn't watch much of last night's game, due to a combination of the Das Banquet and watching my Jets (wha?) get a nice little overtime W over Boston's beloved Pats. [Hence the title of the post... face boston! and face hoody! (OK maybe I'm still a little bitter about the world series and maybe the Broncos loss)]. But anyways, it's nice to see the N-Pups bounce back after a loss to a team that we normally kind of own.

After watching/ listening to most of tonight's game on FSN, I kind of put 2 and 2 together with the timing of this East Coast Friday night game and figured it was likely on ESPN, and switched over (I like biased announcers, but Barlowe...). Even the ESPN guys were given props to the Nuggets D; kind of weird. I must agree though, the D looked good tonight; I have no problem with Nene getting 5 steals during the course of a game. YB proves to be correct in his 09 Nene assessment (just as long as he stays healthy and out of foul trouble in my opinion).

Good W. Post-Billups trade Nug Pups are looking mighty nice thus far.

On a slight side note, the Taco Bell feed your Nugget fever deal sucks. A) with this more defensive oriented team, I don't see the Nuggets scoring over 120 points a whole lot this season, and B) paying over 2 bucks for 3 tacos and a drink ain't anything to write home about. (4 tacos for a dollar on the on the other hand, now that's a steal)
